What to check before you buy a lion's mane mushroom supplement
Four things separate a whole-food Lion's Mane from the rest. Use them to compare any brand, not just ours.
The buying guide
1. Is it a whole food or an extract?
An extract isolates one or two compounds and suspends them in water or alcohol. That's how a solid mushroom becomes a liquid. It's cheap to produce, but it leaves most of the mushroom behind. A whole food keeps everything the mushroom naturally contains.
2. Where was it grown?
Mushrooms are super absorbent. They take up whatever is in the air and water around them, including heavy metals. That's why we won't sell imported mushrooms when Australian grown is readily available, and why our heavy-metal report is published above.
3. How was it dried?
Every drying method loses something. Freeze-drying takes the mushroom to -65°C so quickly it's "snap" dried, while many imported mushrooms are spray-dried instead. It's the expensive way, and we think it's worth it.
4. Does it include the mycelium?
Our Whole Mushroom Capsules and Powder include both the mycelium and the fruiting body. If you prefer fruiting body only, choose the Yarra Valley Fruiting Body Powder or Capsules.

Lion's mane powder or lions mane capsules: which should I choose?
Both have the same efficacy. Powder is cheaper and easy to add to smoothies, water, milk or food. Capsules cost a little more but are the most convenient way to take it every day.
How much lion's mane mushroom powder do I take?
One flat teaspoon (2g) a day, mixed into water, milk or another liquid. You can also brew it into tea or use it in cooking. For the capsules, it's 4 capsules a day. Whichever you choose, start with half the recommended amount to let your body get used to it.
When is the best time to take it?
We recommend taking it after your first meal, in the morning.
How soon will I notice anything?
